New Tony Hawk Will Ride Again

Activision wasn’t exactly thrilled with the reviews for Tony Hawk Ride, but that doesn’t mean the publisher has given up on the franchise.
President and CEO of Activision Publisher Mike Griffith stated during the company’s 2009 fiscal call a new Tony Hawk title is planned for release this year and confirmed it will again make use of the skateboard peripheral.
“Game ratings for Tony Hawk Ride weren’t as high as we would have hoped last year. In hindsight, it took longer to optimize the hardware leaving less time to develop the software we launched in 2009,” said Griffith. “Still, play testing and consumer feedback have been very encouraging. The premise of standing on a skateboard and performing tricks that only the pros can pull off is very compelling.”

Griffith said developer Robomodo is focusing on improving the gameplay for the sequel, and said we may see other uses for the board.
“This year, with the hardware complete, we’ll be focusing on improving the software in order to unlock the full potential of the board,” he added. “We continue to believe this innovative peripheral redefines the skateboarding experience and can potentially have different applications in the future.”
